Dell Support Chat Information in Q&A
Does anyone else get really frustrated with people in India on Dell Chat and customer support? Dell chat is a mess when you cannot get a man able to understand when you tell him repeatedly EXACTLY what was going on. Frozen up IE when I tried to use the freshly installed MSN. That took about an hour and a half. NOT worth the major pain in rear of person. Mine!!

LunasAngel replied: "Ugh!! YES!!"

BADASSMAMI replied: "OMG YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

lambchops5151 replied: "YES! Don't give up! If you are really, really persistent, Dell will give you anything you want jus tto get you to quit harassing them! Seriously! Also, try calling at a different time of day and you may get someone who understands you. Also, try telling them that you are a home business and you need "business service"."

Daaling! replied: "yup. we're getting a Mac next time. very frustrating to call Dell."

self-employed replied: "YES!!!!"

Could this Online Dell Support chat representative have gotten fired for this? Can these representatives call without permission? Should I complain to Dell? KK, I asked a quick question online from Dell about what my order would include... He said "Could I please have your phone so I can pull up your account info" I gave him this, even though there was no need for him to view my account... He didn't reply on the computer, 3 minutes later HE BLEEPING CALLED ME... WITHOUT PERMISSION.. My name on the chat was "anonymous"... (Not so anonymous anymore, right) He also told me that the 64-bit OS I chose would *extremely* limit what home-use applications I can run (Noob, eh?) and I should change it cuz that''s more for business use. "Could I please have your phone so I can pull up your account info" Lol I should have asked "are you going to call me if I do?" My fault.

Sam T replied: "Good customer servixce if you ask me. He gave you good advice and talked one on on eto you."

Anonymous A replied: "They wanted to make sure it was you and not someone who stole your identity or wanted to redirect your order. They did this for your own protection and to prevent fraud. I would be happy that they were looking out for me, my purchase, and for my ID and keeping it safe from ID thieves."

Colinc replied: "You should complain. He should NOT need your phone number to check your account. He should be fired. He probably will not be, they do not care."

SUM1DUM replied: "He was obviously trying to go out of his way to help you.. Better than not giving you the time of day or assisting you in any way at all. I agree that he should have asked to talk one-on-one but I don't think it would be anything to get all upset about. Now if he calls back at 2am and asks if you fixed the issue... then yeah."

Miagi99 replied: "Actually, he's not far off on his opinion on 64bit system. Most standard applications and older applications do not even accept 64bit systems and hence will not install. Most applications I install are 32bit and do not run 64bit. Unless, it is a video game or some sort of video editing software. Anyway, he is suppose to ask you for permission to call you and obviously you did not want that and that is why you did online chat support rather than calling. I do not understand why the guy would call you if you contacted him through online chat support I think he was out of line."

Does anyone know if dell offers online chat tech support jobs? Does anyone know if dell offers online chat tech support jobs? I was unable to locate this on dell.com

noknojon replied: "They have on line support but I think it is not chat -"

World replied: "you'd have to be indian living in india....."

dell support? You guys went dell support here's what you do, take your computer Put it on concrete, pick up closest tool, sledge hammer perfered, slam that thing to 1000 pieces, and buy a real system. I've been trying to get information for my father in law to get his dell computer reformated, the windows xp disc say it's updated, it won't do the f11 thing, which mean it's full of errors and all. contacting support I learned not only that they claim my computer was not bought in the states ( Indiana is in the states last time I checked ) and the certificate that came with it they claim is not valid so they won't help you. Security my EYE ! I've had better chats with teenagers who had their fingers in their ears. Dell is the saddest tech support I've ever seen. I'm going out and getting my father in law a new computer IT will not be a dell. the other 6 that has will all be replaced today as well. Marshmellows anyone, we are setting them all on fire. they are worthless.

DoH replied: "why don't you tell us how you really feel?"

jimponder replied: "I can totally agree. I got Dell Gold support (through my company) so I get to talk to someone who actually knows stuff. E-Mail me your service code and I will get the goods for you on this machine if you need to. If you need to reformat the computer, get into the bios to make sure the cd boots first. Put the CD in and reboot. Walk through the menu and repartition your harddrive. Wipe all of the current partitions and create a new one. (This will wipe EVERYTHING ON THE COMPUTER) From there install XP. Don't use the CD dell gave you if you can help it. Use the one that has XP only on it and not all of the dell crap they add on. "

ericisroot replied: "Dell suck."

forrester replied: "I've got a dell windows xp with dvd and cd player, had it for a little over 3 yrs. and NEVER had any problems with it. The cures i download for it is the spy-bot, clean-up, spyware blaster and of course the windows defender. with all that, not one trouble to be found."

searchin4sound replied: "I was gonna rent a tree chipper, run a Dell thru it, and of corse....make a video of this."

Ms. Dell replied: "Your complaint is degraded. First, how long have you had this system? It sounds as if your Uncle's system is very old. However, you are NOT going to get technical support from Dell after your warranty is expired. Secondly, if you are looking for help in the USA while you have bought a Dell in India, you will not GET help, which is obvious and understandable. If you are unable to install your computer operating system, simply buy a new copy of Windows OS. The price is just $150 Making such complaint reveals how unenlightened you are. Dell doesn't suck. It's the people who don't know the basic consequences that are suck. How in this world do you expect to get help where you have bought the system in India and currently living in the USA? How in this world do you expect to get help without valid warranty? Lastly, if you approach other computer makers with this issue, they will tell you the same flipping thing that Dell told you. You have a great day."

Dell Chat Supporters keep leaving? I've tried using Dell's online chat support, but every time I've tried, the person just leaves. "The session has ended!" Every single time I get my problem out, or mention a different problem with my laptop, the person leaves. Why?

David Oliveros replied: "Hmm bad online assistance from Dell, ask them why they are leaving we don't know =P"

why does my new Dell computer w/Vista not support a required audio compression format for yahoo messenger chat i recently bought a Dell PC w/vista program, after tearing down several firewalls i was finally able to download yahoo messenger, however when i try to go into a chat room or to pm friends i get a message that reads,, this computer does not support the required audio compression format,,, i am not all that good with computers so please,, what can i do to be able to chat with friends or get this to work,,,,,

JeStEr replied: "The problem is that vista doesnt have the required codec :( But it is an easy fix... With yahoo closed get this file and run it it will install the codec.. once its done open up yahoo and you will be able to voice chat....Enjoy:)"

Yimaj replied: "That answer pretty much covers it. Worked For me! Thanks"

Zacky replied: "me"

John D replied: "Never use them don't like talking to people I can't understand and that don't understand me. Beside you get better results for your question here."

0475839216 replied: "normally it works out for the best."

mzdrea08 replied: "nope, I have an apple..."

Zara replied: "OMG am i ever i was just thinking about it they are unbelievable!!"

bigwetmonkey replied: "My friend is good with computers (he's an IT Admin) and he called once. They couldn't help him but told him to ask someone "who's good with computers.""

titia replied: "me. change sony or IBM thinkpad."

your # uno replied: "you know what man ....you should totally go slap him bro....dude like totally.man"

hi replied: "i know they hang up on me all of the time and then when you talk to them they say hello my name is tashmahall and they give you weird directions i got so mad with their support that i ended up getting a mac and now i can call apple anytime and an american picks up with no wait and they never hang up dell support does not help at all"

Susan C replied: "I have had great service from Dell support... I spent 10 minutes online with a support tech...and in 2 days had a tech at my house that replaced my laptop keyboard in 5 minutes..."

Kaboose replied: "They still outsource to India? I know most people find any tech support from India a joke. They are just reading off a que card and telling you the obvious and don't actually have a clue what they are talking about."

dotsnail replied: "Yes, Dell's technical support leaves much to be desired. I routinely encounter long wait times. You could get your problem (you did not mention what problem you are having) solved if you ask to speak to a supervisor. Keep track of how long you are on hold (dates and times). Eventually you will get help. Computer hardware is a commodity: every computer maler can get chips, motherboards, memory and disks on the market for ever lower prices. If Dell charges $799 for a computer with good quality parts but one of the competitors charges $50 less, people will most likely buy from the competitor. So Dell has to cut costs in every possible way: parts, manufacturing and technical support. Hope your problem gets solved. My experiences have not all been bad, as long as you are patient and provide a clear statement of the problem."

Ruthie replied: "I love their products but Dell has the absolute WORST customer service around. A little over a year ago I had problems with my computer. I called and I could just barely understand what the guy was saying (i'm not being discriminitory or racist it's just a fact, it's hard for me to hear through thick accents) We ended up getting disconnected so instead I tried the chat. The guy there stopped talking to me after we had tried several stuff, he just vanished! I was so mad! So then I had my Dad call whom did have a better understanding of what the person was saying but we couldn't figure out what was wrong, and again the call got disconnected (hmmm....coincidence?) We called back went through a LOT of the steps and he finally said they would send over a technician the following week to figure it out. It took the guy that came 10 minutes at the most. I could have taken it to a local computer repair shop and I had tried but it turned out I still was covered under warranty for another week (I thought it had already expired) and wouldn't have to pay if I had Dell do it. That was just a nightmare."

Zay replied: "my mother is"

sweettoze replied: "Dell for the most part makes a good computer. That being said, you had better hope you don't have any problems with it. Their support is some of the worst. It is mostly out sourced if not all out sourced. I do pc repairs and you would not believe some of the horror stories I have heard. The worse story I have heard was from a lawyer. Her computer wouldn't start one day so she called dell. She was on the phone with a lady in India. She told the lady her problem and the lady proceeded to have her reformat her hard drive. Half way through it, the lawyer asked, "I'm not going to lose my files am I?" I don't have a back up. And the lady hung up on her. Last I heard she was suing Dell, I don't know what ever came of it. This was only one of many many stories I have heard. I personally own several Dells, but I never call customer support. Good Luck to you!!!"

sassy dude replied: "It's been a few months since I got my system The first one lasted 3 days. Customer support sucks. YOU CANNOT UNDERSTAND THEM. I had a Customer service agent have me disconnect all the drives ,then he decided we could not fix it,. After much screaming they replaced it. If they want me to buy my 5th computer as a Dell they will have to get American ENGLISH SPEAKING customer service. The present outsourcing is an insult.."

Computer (HELP DELL) Thanks? I cleaned out my parents computer they have a Dell and Windows XP Home Edition they have a good amount of Free space right now and etc it was running really slow and staggering that's why I cleaned it out for them and put in a fresh Windows XP Home Edition disc in there for them, But the problem I'm having is The computer did not come with any Disc or anything I had to download the drivers from Dell Download Driver section on there website cause I bought the computer from a guy that re-builds them and etc at the fleamarket he is not there no more I think cause he moved to another flea market I think I'm not to sure but its been a long time since I bought it from them it was made in 2004 the person that purchased it and then gave it to them. But the thing is I have Verizon DSL and I have an Ethernet Cable hooked up to that and to the modem of the dell and it used to work perfectly until I cleaned it out and now it can't find the Ethernet Controller Adapter and it's annoying I have been downloading Drivers last night and today on mind and saving them to a disc and trying and they install but just can't find the right Ethernet Adapter one for the Ethernet Cord so can someone help me with this PLEASE I will love you forever lol But yeah it's just so annoying I stayed up last night around 3 in the morning trying to fool with it, and no luck I contacted Dell chat support they act like they don't know what I"m talking about. Thanks.....

The Tech Guru replied: "Go back to the Dell website and download the drivers you need for ethernet, use a different computer to DL Them and then put them on a USB and transfer them over."

Tigger replied: "Follow Guru's instructions and you will be in business."

During voice chat, i am able to hear others voice but they're not able to hear me? What're the reasons? The model i am using is Dell D600. I chat using external earphone with mike. Eventhough, i am using this, people on the other side are not able to hear me. Recently, my laptop crashed into the floor. After this only, i am facing this problem. I suspect some hardware device may be damaged bcoz of this. Pls tell me what are the devices in laptop that support voice chat and let me know the cost of replacing such parts in case they are damaged. Please advise me ASAP. Pls let me know if this information is not sufficient to track the problem.

Ruby replied: "I was facing the same problem when talking to my mom, but after manytimes of reconfiguring my computer and voice service, it turned out her pc was corrupted so the problem was from her side. Make sure there arent any probs with the other party's computer, mic, or voice setting"

How to get sound on my pc? Easy question? When I installed windows xp onto my pc, it said that it wasnt able to copy the audio, cause the win xp cd was badly scratched. So does this mean that I cant ever get sound on my pc? I have downloaded at least 10 diffrent audio drivers, but none of them work. Not even from the dell chat support, they couldnt help me either. How can I get sound?

Scott.muten replied: "If it's a disk issue, there are places that will probably fix your disk for a minimal fee, some video game shops might do that. If you prefer, you could probably try contacting Microsoft and asking for a replacement disk. They would probably ship you one; when you buy a copy of windows, what you're really buying is the activation key."
